Seiko is an extremely cheerful and energetic girl who enjoys playing around with her friends. In Corpse Party: Live Action Movie, she has 2 pigtails and no curls under her ears. Her student ID is pinned on the top left side of her skirt. She wears the standard Kisaragi Academy Senior High female uniform consisting of a tan colored sailor outfit with a blue collar, light blue cuffs, yellow ribbon held by a blue brooch, blue pleated skirt, black knee-high socks and white uwabaki slippers with blue stripes near the soles. Seiko has a natural kitty mouth/smile, which is especially noticeable when she's being devious and/or perverted. She also wears a blue barrette on the left side of her head. She has light brown eyes and long brown hair (colored orange in the manga adaptation) that she styles into two curls on both sides of her head, just beneath her ears. Seiko is a teenage girl with below-average height and build. She is the older sister of Yuu Shinohara, Kei Shinohara, and Aya Shinohara. She is a student of Kisaragi Academy Senior High School's classroom 2-9 and a victim of Heavenly Host. The little discoveries–notes left by a girl slowly dying of starvation, corpses than mumble the name “Kizami” when examined, the notes of a psychic who was trapped in the school–really add to the feeling of dread that permeates the game. There’s a bad ending or a fate worse than death lurking around every corner, and if it’s not happening to one of the protagonists, then it’s definitely happened to someone else. Why do I still love Corpse Party? Because it’s a fun game with characters whose relationships I’m still really invested in, and every one of those characters can die horribly if I make the decision. Not everyone can be saved, and some of the monsters which stalk the halls of Heavenly Host are still human. The struggle to keep as many of the kids alive as possible gets more difficult with each installment. It’s funny and charming enough to get you attached to the characters, which means you care when they die. Specifically, the fine balance it strikes between incredibly dark comedy and visceral scares. Even the somewhat generically cute anime art proves very memorable when it’s contrasted with the gory graphics.
Corpse Party‘s greatest strength, aside from its surprisingly solid characterization, would have to be its tone. But story alone isn’t enough to carry an indie horror game to cult status.
